George P. Kalimbassieris – The founder of Kalimbassieris Maritime, George Kalimbassieris has spent his lifetime in the shipping industry and is a prominent figure in Piraeus. Prior to establishing the company in 1979, George held managerial positions in a number of major shipping operations, including managing director of Venizelos Shipping and Salamis Shipyards and repair manager of Eleusis Shipyards. After originally qualifying as a marine engineer with the ex-Hellenic Royal Navy and serving for some 12 years, George was appointed as resident superintendent of a seven-year newbuildings program in Japan for Global Chartering and Brokering and, from there, went on to hold several positions as superintendent and technical manager for Greek shipping companies.
George Kalimbassieris now undertakes major casualty cases and contributes his wealth of knowledge and experience as a consultant on complex matters.

 


Christina G. Kalimbassieris – Christina Kalimbassieris is the managing director of the company and, apart from her administrative and marketing role, is also part of the company’s emergency response team.
Christina joined the company in 1989 and took over the management from her father the following year. She studied shipping at the London Institute of Shipping and Transport and completed postgraduate studies at UWIST, Cardiff. Christina joined the company after working as a claims adjuster with P&O Bulk Carriers and the London office of Poseidon Average Adjusters.


Dimitrios Giannakouros A naval architect and marine engineer, graduate from the National Technical University in Athens, Dimitrios is the technical director of our company and the manager of our Greek office.
Apart from technical management, he is the company’s senior surveyor having been involved in a number of large and complex cases involving engine room flooding, collision, grounding, engine damage, etc. 
With extensive experience in the local shipping industry, Dimitrios, amongst other, provides technical consultancy to the H&M Underwriters and largely co-operates with them in the setting up of major cases, by assisting Owners in drafting repair specifications, co-ordinating the tendering process and negotiating prices with yards.
Prior to joining Kalimbassieris Maritime in 2000, Dimitrios worked at both Eleusis Shipyards and Hellenic Shipyards (Skaramanga) as part of the supervision team for the Hellenic Navy newbuildings program. He joined the Hellenic Register of Shipping in 1989, where he worked as a field surveyor for six years and later as deputy director of the Classification and Certification division. Dimitrios has also been a member of the Greek delegation to the IMO for ten years and has participated in various committees and other IMO bodies.

 


George Papadopoulos – With extensive surveying experience, George specializes in both H&M and P&I surveys, with an emphasis on casualty work including major groundings, collisions, machinery breakdown. He has attended a number of pollution cases in Greece, including the first major case involving Scopic. George attends large repair jobs in the East Med and Black Sea on behalf of the Norwegian and London H&M Underwriters and is regularly involved in assisting with drafting of repair specifications and tendering process with yards.

He joined the company in 1995 and spent his first five years working on major H&M cases under the guidance of George Kalimbassieris. George is a marine engineer and naval architect, having obtained his MEng. in Newcastle upon Tyne. Before joining Kalimbassieris Maritime he worked for a shipping company as assistant superintendent.


Petros Pavlidis – With 16 years of service at sea, Petros is well-placed to conduct a wide range of surveys. He has acquired vast experience in pollution cases, cargo and container damages and has particular knowledge of the port issues.

Petros is a Chief Officer and before joining us in 1997 he worked as Master for Nearchos Mamidakis Lines (Flying Dolphins) servicing the local islands. Petros was born in Turkey, of Greek descent, and speaks fluent Turkish.
 


Stamatios Katsaris – Stamatios joined us in 2002 as a marine surveyor and case handler and has particular experience with nautical matters and liquid cargoes.

He holds a BA in Maritime Studies and is a Chief Officer, having sailed on tankers. Before joining us Stamatios worked as assistant manager and quality officer for a local ship agency.
 

 

Alexandros Apostolatos – Alexandros is a mechanical engineer with a BSc from the Greek Technical Institute of Patras and a MEng from the University of Hertfordshire. He joined the P&I correspondency team of our Greek office in 2001 and has since assumed coordinating role in the setting up of many of the Piraeus cases and has assisted in major P&I casualty work.

Alexandros has now joined our technical department as surveyor and is involved in both H&M and P&I surveys.

 


Spiros FerentinosSpiros holds a BEng from the University of Surrey and an MSc in Advance Mechanical Engineering from the Imperial College of London.
 
He was employed as part of the technical department of Kalimbassieris Maritime in 2005 and having completed a two-year training period has joined the team of surveyors for both H&M and P&I work.

 

Anastassios Kallinikos - Upon obtaining his Mechanical Engineer diploma from National Technical University of Athens (1995) and MSc in Marine Engineering from University College London (1996), Anastassios attended a Panamax bulk carrier new-building project in Hyundai Shipyard (Ulsan, S. Korea 1998-99). He then returned to Greece and worked for 7 years as Superintendent Engineer with Greek shipping companies.

Anastassios joined our company in 2006, after having obtained a vast experience in maintenance and repair works mainly in bulk carriers and tankers. He has undertaken both H&M and P&I cases and has been recently involved in one of the major casualties.
 

 


 

Achilleas Mavranezoulis - Achilleas has recently joined our Piraeus office as a case handler having been previously employed with HELMEPA (Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association) and in the operations department of a shipping company before that. Achilleas holds a BSc in Maritime Studies and an LL.M from Cardiff University.

 


Sasha Dobra - A maritime lawyer, Sasha first joined Kalimbassieris in 2003 as a claims handler.  Having taken some time out on maternity leave she has recently returned in a new role, dealing with the company's administrative and legal affairs.
 
Sasha is an Australian qualified lawyer with a Masters Degree in Maritime Law from the University of London. Prior to joining us she worked for five years in a West Australian law firm and two years in the litigation department at Freshfields Solicitors in London.
